As we start to head into the fall and winter months we know that Spyder Ryders are always looking for ways to stay warm and ride during the colder months. Marc Pukos of SpyderTalk.com and members of SpyderTalk.com have provided the Spyder Team with 10 Cold Weather Riding Tips for those who ride their Spyders in the chilly temperatures.
1. Avoid cotton. Wear under garments that wick moisture away from your body.
2. Wear clothing in thin layers that you can add to and subtract from as the temperature changes.
3. Consider heated socks at temps of 40F and below. Look into purchasing ‘Microwire’ clothing which provides comfort due to its thin and easy-stretch ability.
4. Heated grips are great but understand that they only warm the insides of your hands in cold weather; additional wind protection like hand guards or a flared windshield is suggested. Heated waterproof gloves are a great option that will keep you warm in all conditions.
5. The outer clothing layer should be windproof/waterproof for cold and rain weather conditions.
6. For temps below 40F, we suggest you consider a heated vest, and a full heated jacket and pants liner for ultimate comfort.
7. Make frequent stops to get off of your Spyder and stretch, ensuring proper circulation throughout your body.
8. Wear a good full face helmet with a quality balaclava underneath to keep drafts away from your neck, and make sure most vent openings on the helmet are closed to ensure cold air is not coming in. Do not close all vents since air flow needs to be regulated throughout the helmet so that fog does not cloudy the shield.
9. Get a fog free shield or treat your shield with an anti-fog solution to ensure maximum visibility.
10. Footwear should be waterproof, and regular stretching of the feet should be done to keep circulation properly flowing.
