Technology
Advanced technology lets you focus more on the thrill of the ride. Go deep into the Spyder's body and brains. Yes, we said brains.
Spyder Vitals
Skeleton
The Spyder rides on a steel spine and sports car suspension, making it lightweight, yet tough.
Double-A Arm Suspension
Found in sports cars and luxury automobiles, double A-arm suspensions optimize wheel motion and steering effort while minimizing bump steer.
SST™ Frame
SST™ (Surrounding Spar Technology) is a minimalist steel center-beam design which allows for a lower engine layout and center of gravity, thus improving handling and cornering. A surrounding spar frame is lighter than traditional ladder-type frames, yet produces greater structural integrity due to fewer weld points.
Rear Suspension
The adjustable spring load on the rear and the rear swing-arm with monoshock plus adjustable cams ensure perfect damping characteristics while
carrying a load.
Muscle
The Spyder's fluid motion stems from a smooth 5-speed gearbox and final belt drive.
Final Belt Drive
The final belt drive provides ultra-smooth gearing and easy maintenance.
5-Speed Gearbox
Fluid motion stems from the smooth 5-speed gearbox created specifically for the Spyder. It features a true mechanical reverse.
New Semi-Auto Transmission
Advanced electronics and shifter
With its advanced electronics and highly intelligent reflexes, the Spyder with the SE5 transmission gives new meaning to the term easy rider. Featuring five forward gears and one reverse, it is a true mechanical transmission that doesn't compromise on weight or control. It puts you in total command of your ride, allowing you to shift gears with the press of a button using only your left thumb and index finger.
Sequential transmission
Everything about the Spyder semi-automatic immerses you deeper into freedom on the paved road. The SE5's electronically controlled sequential transmission is ultra responsive, changing gears within thousandths of a second. Nothing else out there has the power to heighten your riding experience like the Spyder SE5.
Centrifugal clutch
City or highway, the centrifugal clutch engages automatically when and only when you rev the engine. When you're stopped it will help you avoid rolling forward – even in first – and you don't have to ease off the gas when changing gears. It offers you such a smooth and seamless ride you might just forget to downshift. But no worries, the system will kick in and do it for you. Instinctively, no need to clutch or blip the throttle, and it will help you avoid stalling as you slowdown or come to a stop.
Heart
To bring the Spyder to life, BRP started with the legendary Rotax V990 engine, which comes with an impressive track record in racing, touring and adventure motorcycling.
Rotax 998cc Engine
Rotax 990 V-Twin Liquid-Cooled
with Double Overhead Cams.
Providing life under the hood is a Rotax 998cc, V-twin liquid cooled engine. It delivers a strong push and responsive acceleration throughout the power band, with 106 peak horsepower and a peak torque of 77 foot-pounds. Advanced features include double overhead cams and a state-of-the-art electronic fuel management system which provides precise throttle response, crisp acceleration, and reliable engine starting while complying with stringent environmental regulations.
Nervous System
1 Body. 4 Brains. The Spyder senses its surroundings using four Electronic Control Units (ECUs). These sophisticated systems detect everything from wheel slippage to engine performance to digitally-encoded security information.
Command Center
The state-of-the-art multi-function gauge cluster provides a quick overview of all critical functions. The user-friendly display lets you choose which information you want to view on the digital display. It is also home to the comprehensive diagnostic center. Information displayed in either metric or US standards.
Brain 4: Digitally Encoded Security System - DESS™
(DESS?)
To protect the Spyder from theft or other unauthorized use, the vehicle will not start unless the rider uses the correctly coded electronic key.
Brain 3: Electronic Fuel Injection - (EFI)
(EFI)
EFI regulates the amount of fuel released into the cylinders to optimize performance. This provides precise throttle response, crisp acceleration, reliable engine starting and improved fuel economy.
Brain 2: Dynamic Power Steering - DPS™
(DPS)
DPS™ provides a computer-programmed, variable power assist that adjusts the amount of steering effort required according to speed, load and torque. This optimizes steering effort and improves handlebar comfort, even at very low speeds.
Brain 1: Vehicle Stability System - VSS™
(VSS)
The VSS™ reduces your risk of losing control of the Spyder. The VSS™ continuously analyzes the motion and forces as they relate to the Spyder' stability and will intervene and assist the rider in keeping the vehicle under control. Incorporated in VSS™ are the functions of ABS, TCS and SCS™.
